Gamuda boosts scholarship fund to US$9m for 206 scholars

What happened

Gamuda Bhd has raised its scholarship allocation to US$9 million (RM39 million) for 206 scholars, up from US$7 million (RM31 million) in 2025. The increase coincides with the company's 50th anniversary and the 30th year of the Gamuda Scholarship under Yayasan Gamuda.

The 206 scholars were chosen from 4,096 applicants, representing the top 5% of applicants. The group said the selection reflects its focus on bringing diverse perspectives, fresh ideas and technical capabilities into the organisation.

Group managing director Lin Yun Ling said talent is the single most critical asset for both nation-building and business expansion. The scholarship programme aims to widen access to quality higher education and ensure top global and local exposure for young leaders regardless of financial background.

Nearly 80% of this year's scholars come from B40 and M40 households, while 15% are from East Malaysia and indigenous communities. This focus supports Gamuda's regional growth across nine international markets.

Gamuda continues to offer fully funded overseas scholarships, with 23 scholars attending institutions including Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.

This global exposure combined with operational experience aims to equip future leaders to manage both human and technological capabilities. The group said this addresses increasingly complex challenges across the region.
